    What is the GTO programme?

    The GTO programme is a unique initiative of the SIS Group, which was started in 1988 with an aim to create a pool of operating managers and officers and at the same time, to provide a career to these officers.
    The concept was to recruit young and talented graduates, train them in security operations and provide them a career in the security industry.

    The GTO programme, the first and only programme of its kind in the Indian Security Industry was conceptualized and planned by our Mr. R K Sinha, the Founder and Chairman of the SIS Group.
    These officers form the core management teams at divisional, regional and operational/branch levels. The programme since commencement, has provided stable and strong operating managers to the SIS Group, and the success of the programme has thus, effectively broken the myth that security is the job of only retired defence services and police officers.

    Till date, the SIS Group has recruited and trained 28 batches of GTOs.

    How many GTOs does the SIS Group require ?

    What is the typical career path of a GTO ?

    After passing out, the GTO would typically begin by being posted as Unit Commander, thereafter moving on to increasingly larger roles as Assignment Executive / Manager in the areas of Operations, Sales, or Quality Assurance, Assistant Manager/Manager in charge of Branch Operations, Sales, or Quality Assurance. After successfully completing postings in these areas, the GTO could go on to becoming a Branch Head, then a Regional Manager / Regional Head.

    Who is eligible to apply for the GTO programme ?

    Any candidate in the age bracket of 21-35 years who is a graduate in any stream and meeting physical standards for the security industry of height 170 cms (5’7”) and chest – 80 cms (normal) 84 cms may apply for the course.

    There is a relaxation in height of 5 cms for North Eastern Region, Kumaon and Garhwal and Gorkhas.

    Preference is given to candidates having NCC ‘C’ certificate, MBA and outstanding sports achievements. Good communication in English and proficiency in computers is desirable however not mandatory.

    What is the admission and selection process ?

    Announcements are made in newspapers in the months of April and September inviting applications for the programme. This is followed by a written test in July and December which is of 2 hours duration comprising of 4 sections. These sections comprise Written English, Group Discussion, Public Speaking, and Computer proficiency tests.

    Successful candidates are then called for Physical Tests and Group Discussion. The shortlisted candidates are then interviewed by the Group management after which the final list of candidates admitted to the GTO programme is prepared.

    The selected candidates then undergo training of 3 months duration at the Training Academies of SIS followed by 3 months of on-job training at customer sites before the final passing out at which time a Post Graduate Diploma is awarded.

    What is the salary which a GTO can expect ?

    During the training period, a stipend is paid along with free accommodation and messing. The initial classroom based training is followed by a 3 month on the job training. During this period the stipend is increased by 25% and accommodation is provided.

    After passing out as a GTO, a starting salary is paid based on the posting and location.

    What are the growth opportunities for a GTO ?

    The SIS Group provides excellent growth opportunities for a lifelong career across its various businesses. Many officers from the GTO programme are today in senior management and leadership positions in our different business verticals. Most of the 14 Regional Heads are graduates from the GTO programme and the training academies are today headed and managed by a graduate from the GTO programme.

    When does the training programme commence ?

    The training programme for the batches commence on 26th January and 15th August each year.

    What is the typical batch size ?

    Each batch will typically have between 50 to 60 trainees.

    What does the training programme comprise of ?

    The training programme comprises of both Physical and Academic sessions.

    The physical sessions consist of Physical training, Drill, Yoga, Karate, Route March and Mount trekking.

    The Academic sessions consist of Management, Security related subjects, basic finance, Electronic gadgets, Operations and Administration.

    Is there an examination at the end of the training ?

    At the end of the three months training and before proceeding on OJT there is a Final Test which comprises of Physical and Academic subjects of a total of 200 marks.The physical section comprises Drill and Hurdles and the Academic section is based upon the curriculum completed during the course of the training.
